The average price of pigs in Ukraine increased by 8.4%, - KSG Agro expert
The average price for live pigs in Ukraine in the last days of March increased by 8.4% to 58-60 UAH/kg. After a decrease of 11% the previous week. This was reported by the press service of KSG Agro with reference to the commercial director of the holding Yevhen Badogin.
According to the Ukrainian Pig Association (UPA), at the end of the second decade of March, prices for live pigs decreased by 11%, which is explained by weakened sales in all sales channels due to the tense situation in the regions affected by recent shelling. "Although the majority of operators worked as planned, some procurers were forced to reduce their purchases, while others noted increased competition between suppliers of chilled pork," the UPA explained the price dynamics at the time.
However, already on March 29, the price trend reversed - at the end of March, the situation changed: prices went up and increased by 8.4% to 58-60 UAH/kg.
"Some market volatility in the second half of March was indeed caused by intense shelling by the aggressor in the East of the country. However, in the coming weeks, we expect the traditional price increase with the beginning of the spring-summer season and the approach of Easter, when demand is growing," comments Yevhen Badogin, Commercial Director at KSG Agro.
